Just want to know the difference between Optometrist (Doctors) and the optical shops like Turakhia and other big brands. Because lot of people go to shops to buy a spectacle where as some go to the doc for the same problem with eyes?
An optometrist is a medical professional who can examine the eyes for problems, prescribe glasses & contact lenses, and diagnose problems with the eyes. Most optical shops will have optometrists on staff.
An opthamologist is a medical doctor specialising in the eye, ie someone who has completed a medical degree and then gone on to do specialist training in this area. Opthamologists can treat eye diseases & perform eye surgery.
